Lanvin

For over a decade now, designer Alber Elbaz' reinvigoration of Lanvin has enchanted fashion fans in a way that intensifies with each passing year. The transformation has also reignited a Parisienne fashion attitude and vocabulary, creating a unique, artistic blend of modern glamour.

Israeli fashion designer Alber Elbaz is one of fashion’s most loved talents. The designer began his career at Geoffrey Beene in New York in the 80s, where Beene’s rejection of trend to focus on drape proved an enduring influence. After garnering attention back in Paris at Guy Laroche, Elbaz joined Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche Femme in the late 90s, when Mr. Saint Laurent wished to retire from ready-to-wear. Elbaz moved to Krizia before joining Lanvin in 2001, where he has remained ever since, synonymous with the contemporary vocabulary of the house. Elbaz is known for his use of colour and joie de vivre dressing, his designs speaking to many women.

Jeanne Lanvin set up a milliner’s boutique on the corner of Rue Boissy d’Anglas and Rue due Faubourg St Honoré before founding her fashion house. Lanvin's Paris flagship remains at that address today. Inspired by her daughter Marguerite Marie Blanche, Lanvin added childrenswear before joining the Syndicat de la Couture and expanding into wedding dresses, interiors, sportswear and in 1924, perfumes via Arpège – which creative director Alber Elbaz paid tribute to as a supersized minaudière for SS13.
