Be the first to embrace Spring/Summer 14 with these simple changes to your beauty regime.
We Love Brights
While firecracker orange and deep vermillion red ruled the catwalk, the ultimate modern twist is a high pigment and uber matte lip. Don’t worry too much about precise application, the trick is to apply, blot, and repeat, from the centre of the lip.
Backstage, makeup artists waxed lyrical about the new technology in the latest base products. From slow release pigment to optic light reflecting technology, the latest foundations give way to some transformative contouring. At Valentino, superstar makeup artist Pat McGrath used theatrical techniques, using the light to enhance a more refined bone structure. Keep the forehead pale and highlight in the corners of the eyes, cheekbones and cupid’s bow for a dramatic statement. You can’t get more chic.
This season’s ponytails are low and super sleek. Straight hair still rules, and the most modern way to wear it is tied up at the nape of the neck. Backstage maestro, Guido Palau says, “the low pony is the ultimate in simplicity and works on so many levels. There’s a nonchalance about the look but different product finishes will keep it subtle or add impact.” Go for volume when you want a statement by backcombing or keep it sleek and straight for minimalist chic.
Unisex fragrances are the must-have accessory. Step away from the girly florals and embrace some zesty colognes as you start 2014 with a spring in your step. Citrus and green notes rule with the rich undertones of woody notes. Remember that colognes will evaporate faster than the more concentrated perfumes, don’t just spritz on your wrist or neck, be liberal as you spray all over in the mornings.
Get those anti-aging creams working harder by searching out the most hydrating and nourishing formulas. The latest slew of creams to battle the harsh winter weather are packed with active ingredients to rival the punchiest of serums. Make sure you apply an essence before your moisturiser instead of a toner if your skin is really dry. Use your finger tips to lightly tap the formula into your skin. This will also get your circulation moving in the mornings and give you a healthy, dewy glow.
