What to wear: Pitti Uomo edition
Our top trends for SS27 menswear
This year’s titular Florentine menswear trade show would cure any type of dressing blues we may be facing, come one of the hottest summers on record. From pops of colour and fresh suiting options, to summer staples and a renewed love of punk, this year’s fashion presentations explored the continuity of menswear in its past, present and future iterations. Whether you belong to the camp of relaxed classics or hunters of novelty, there’s something for everyone.
COLOUR, COLOUR, COLOUR
Embrace colour unapologetically, boldly, even brashly; whether through colour-blocking or using just a splash to spice up a neutral outfit.
POETIC ANARCHISM
Kei Ninomiya showed a collection for Dover Street Market that made us fall in love with punk again. Think leather, see-through shirts, plaids, distressed details, and of course, florals, woven into a mohawk or otherwise.
SUITS AND BEYOND
Suits, and whatever else can pass for suits. Take, for example, Copenhagen-based label Sunflower’s presentation that featured the Canadian tuxedo in all its might and glory. There’s more than one way to look polished, but one foolproof way to do it is coordinating tops and bottoms – suits or not.
SHORTS
Where would we be without the summer short? Both above and below-the-knee styles are in, just make sure they’re generously cut, for both comfort and cool-factor.
