CELEBRATING THE GERMAN MINIMALIST DESIGNER AS SHE HEADS HOME TO HER EPONYMOUS LABEL
Jil Sander debuted her comeback with menswear spring summer 2013 – a collection with an uncanny resemblance to the past and a distinct sense of continuation. Reapplying her expertness in minimalism to tailoring, the focus clearly rests on pattern making and materials. Angular shapes and strict silhouettes are juxtaposed with a practical palette of blue, burgundy, creams and yellow for a sharp finish. We look at the three defining characteristics of the collection.
EASY TAILORING
Expect to see Edwardian proportions of the jackets – long, lean and double-breasted. Wear them over white poplin shirts for an easy tailored look.
GERMAN SCHOOLBOY
Referencing German schoolboys of an authoritarian era, Jil Sander works baggy shorts into spring summer 2013 for a comfort meets polished vibe.
COLOUR PLAY
From patterns to vivid prints and colour-blocking, Jil Sander implements a well thought out palette into play. Match your Blinky Palermo and Robert Mangold patterns with stark separates to emphasise their vivacity.
It’s been a long time coming since Jil Sander announced her departure of her own namesake brand in 2004. After all, she paved the way for minimalist aesthetics and pioneered a deliberately pared down style with a masculine flair. Following an eight-year hiatus and Raf Simon’s invaluable body of work for the brand, Jil Sander is back to her role as creative director and is as ready as ever.
