Celebrating 165 Discover the new visionaries
Sophie Kahn
Sophie Kahn combines cutting-edge technology with ancient bronze casting techniques to create fragmented marble and clay sculptures with a Victorian-futurist aesthetic. Using 3D-scanning technology, Kahn photographs the moving body, generating a “motion blur” that is then moulded into sculptures. The resulting objects embody today’s fascination with capturing every moment.
“I am interested in destabilising the technologies that we currently use, to find traces and echoes of the past, and to ask some of the same questions that artists have always asked of any technology that makes claims to totality. Sometimes I do imagine my works as future relics, damaged or degraded – perhaps by some form of catastrophe that we can’t yet imagine, or simply by the passage of time.”
