Angela Rossi transforms antique plates into modern art portraits.
Los Angeles-based artist Angela Rossi presents her collection of “Altered Antique Plates,” where the “recycled, abused, tossed aside, broken and forgotten about” are lovingly transformed into fantastic, new, one-of-a-kind creations.
Rossi finds antique fine bone china plates, heat-seals intriguing old or digitally altered portraits onto them, may add a lick of gold gilding for a finishing touch, and delights all with her unique BeatUp Creation pieces. Both safe for dining use as well as striking as wall art, Rossi’s plates mix modern and aged, porcelain with pop, and sophistication with edge.
“I love the contrast between old versus new, pretty versus ugly, soft versus hard,” the artist explains of her aesthetic style. “I love the working with images of punk rockers, circus freaks, monsters, famous rebels and sci-fi characters. Combined, these all create a great contrast or juxtaposed feel.”
BeatUp Creations is available now at the Lane Crawford Home & Lifestyle Store at Pacific Place, Hong Kong.
