Celebrating a milestone in the journey of Milan-based fashion house Neil Barrett, Lane Crawford is excited to offer an exclusive anniversary capsule collection. Differing from the brand’s ornate, splashy SS20 repertoire, the upcoming capsule is all about a monochromatic palette with asymmetric designs that match hybridised sneakers.
Neil discovered his passion for fashion at an early age — the gift for artisanry has run in his family for four generations, after all. The Devon native studied at both Central Saint Martins and the Royal College of Art in London before he went on to Gucci and Prada, afterwards launching his own menswear line in 1999 with his signature look being modern minimal.
As a nod to the designer’s earlier work, the new range is dominated by the famous lightning bolt motif, realised in bold prints that electrify the muted base colours of his streamlined designs.
A key piece in the collection is a reversible nylon bomber jacket. The ever-present lightning bolt strikes outward from one side of the collar, juxtaposed with an image of an actual bolt of lightning. Besides the ability to be inverted, the jacket is also marked on its chest with “20th Year” to celebrate the milestone; on the reverse, it’s initialled with the NB insignia.
“Born in Britain Made in Italy” is printed on labels that can be found on the sleeves of the zip-up hoodie and sweatshirt, and above the hem of tight crew-neck T-shirts. It not only alludes to the designer’s origin, but also refers to the major turning point for the brand, whose entire production line was moved to Tuscany in 2009.
Ten years on from that, and twenty brilliant years in total, here we are. Long live Neil Barrett.
