LC Debates: bright vs white sneakers Two of our men’s shoe buyers battle it out

While plain white sneakers have been a clear favourite in the footwear arena for years now, bright shades have fast been gaining sartorial steam. Our men’s shoes and accessories buyers Harry Luk and Peyton Lee are partial to opposing styles, so we asked them to go head to head and state their case for each.

Team bright

Harry Luk: “Colour – and the bolder the better – has been my new white when it comes to trainers for a while now, and I’m not looking back. I spent years sliding into simple, safe, neutral sneakers every day, and it got just got so dull. Brights are the easiest way to inject some fun into getting dressed without detouring from my standard uniform of jeans and T-shirts. Plus, the focal point of a statement style of footwear makes for an easy conversation starter.”

Team white

Peyton Lee: “I’m never leaving the white sneaker party. My daily footwear arsenal of choice is almost always a slim, classic style and there’s literally nothing in my wardrobe they don’t look good with – whether it be chinos, jeans, track pants or even a suit, I know it’s a shoe that’ll match with my look. Neutral outfit? No problem. Brights or prints? Ideal. A suit? Yep, still works. Why fix what’s not broken?”
