LC Debates: Block vs Stiletto Heels

Our shoe buyers battle it out

When it comes to heel styles, most women tend to gravitate towards a favourite instinctively: block or stiletto. Which camp are you in? Our accessory buyers Sara Wong and Irene Yu are on opposing sides, so we asked them to state their cases.

Team Block

“It’s true that stilettos can look super pretty, but looks aren’t everything when it comes to shoes: I want a pair I can walk to work in, wear all day, then go to dinner or an event in afterwards. More than that, I want a pair that’s sturdy enough for me to dash up and down stairs in with without worrying about breaking my leg. Also, let’s not forget the all-important styling benefits of a block — they’re ideal for anchoring feminine dresses and pretty skirts, which is particularly great for the spring when flouncy, feminine pieces are s upon us.”

Team Stiletto

“There’s something about the gracefully arched silhouette and impressive balancing act of wearing a stiletto that feels like the epitome of glamour and elegance. Block heels don’t have that same magic. Sure, I’m all for a chunky style on occasion, especially for practicality, but — and this is an important but — if you closed your eyes right now and pictured your ultimate pair of shoes, the kind that makes you weak at the knees with desire, what kind of heel does it have? A stiletto, right? Exactly!”
