While frequently regarded as simple, everyday functional items, chairs often carry with them months of meticulous engineering and careful designing. In fact, there is a certain art to picking a chair - it expresses not only one’s lifestyle but also offers others a glimpse of one’s personal identity.

This season, we’re taking you on a journey to honour the heritage, innovation, and functionality behind one hundred iconic chairs. The expansive, yet thoughtfully curated edit pays an ode to varied design eras, styles, and levels of craftsmanship throughout the last century. Sourced from all over the world, the exhibition includes leading names such as Carl Hansen & Søn, Cassina, Fritz Hansen, KnollStudios, and Vitra. All housed together under one roof, a fusion of shapes, colours, characteristics, features, and usages collide in a harmonious melody of design excellence. Scroll through to discover what to expect at our newly curated installation, HUNDRED, at Pacific Place.

What to Expect

Drawing inspiration from a Vitra exhibition, each of these one hundred pieces in the installation has been chosen for its artisanship and historical significance. HUNDRED goes beyond the appreciation of sublime craftsmanship, and brings together a community by inviting viewers to learn and share about their favourite chairs.

For a truly immersive adventure, the installation’s augmented reality experience allows you to bring your favourite chairs to the real world through your camera lens, by simply scanning the QR codes on your mobile phones.

Fostering the Community

Beyond the celebration of iconic designs, community is at the heart of this installation.

Throughout the event, we invite tastemakers, industry leaders, and more to choose their favourite chairs, fostering a community through a shared appreciation toward these iconic pieces. Our weekend on-site art guides with students of Hong Kong Design Institute and guzheng (古箏) performances are here to offer you an experience that goes beyond visual appreciation and transcends the senses.
