The brand’s intriguing story began in the late 1840s, when explorer Henry Christy visited a Sultan’s palace in Turkey. He brought back to England a sample of loop pile fabric — which would be reproduced by a loom invented by the Christy family, which would eventually become the original patent for terry towels worldwide.
