Famously media-shy and infamously independent, the legendary designer Azzedine Alaïa is no stranger to working to his own timeline. The creative force has, in typically intriguing fashion, launched his first fragrance, Alaïa Paris, more than 30 years after establishing his brand. The Scent

Azzedine Alaïa’s quest for perfection and uncompromising attitude to design extends to his first foray into beauty. Working with a team of experts including acclaimed perfumer Marie Salamagne, Alaïa created a fragrance inspired by “the smell of cold water falling on hot chalk”. Combining airy notes and pink pepper with floral impressions of freesia and peony, Alaïa Paris is a tribute to the sensuality of women – a symbol of the modern goddess created by the legendary designer himself.

The Bottle

Designed by industrial designer Martin Szekely, whose work is showcased in the Pompidou and MK2 cinemas in Paris, the bottle is crafted from black glass with a cap that mimics a spool of gold thread – a homage to Alaïa’s unparalleled craftsmanship. With the aim to design “a fetish object dedicated to women”, Szekely adorned the bottle with Alaïa’s emblematic laser-cut design.
