Opera Jubilee by Angel Chen
Fashion designer Angel Chen graduated from Central Saint Martins in 2014 and gained the attention of the industry when she was named one of the ‘Top Five Graduate Designers of the Year’ by i-D magazine. Now based between London and Shanghai, Chen has used modern elements to create three ‘God’ headpieces to welcome in the Lunar New Year. Traditional Chinese opera, Bulgarian brides and African masquerade inspire the collection. In addition, she has also created four monkey inspired headpieces to showcase along with her new-season womenswear collection.

81 Steps to Spring by Hui Hoi Kiu
Hui Hoi Kiu received her BA in Visual Arts from the Hong Kong Baptist University in 2014. In her installation ‘Spring’, she is inspired by the ancient Chinese practice of counting down to Spring which begins on the first day of the Winter Solstice. Hui has printed 80 white tissue boxes with a blue and white porcelain pattern to represent the days leading up to the Lunar New Year and the start of the new season. The final tissue box features a hand-drawn red and gold monkey pattern.

Monkey Mansion by Huijun Guan
In celebration of the Year of the Monkey, digital artist Huijun Guan has created a video installation entitled ‘Monkey Mansion’ that explores Chinese elements from architecture to old Chinese idioms. When peeking through the windows of the mansion, three moving monkeys represents the phrase, ‘See No Evil, Hear No Evil, Speak No Evil.’

Percipient Monkey by Mosaic Art Projects
Visual artists Karen Pow and Chao Harn Kae, are the creatives behind Mosaic Art Projects (MAP). To celebrate the Year of the Monkey the duo were inspired by the Chinese tradition of paper cutting, which is considered to be an expression of good wishes and hope and have created an innovative oversize monkey sculpture.

Scatter Bloom by Desmond Leung
Desmond Leung merges traditional and modern mediums of paint and ink, moving image and new media, into a new visual language. In celebration of the Lunar New Year, Leung has created an LED installation that shows flowers blossoming in vibrant colours to symbolise a flourishing New Year. He also uses mirrors to reflect the moving images to create an infinite effect.

Wool+ by Yeli Gu
Yeli Gu graduated from Donghue University with a BA in Graphic Design and is now recognized as one of China’s most innovative artists. In Wool+, Gu combines wool with other materials to create new foms. Using discarded chairs found on the roadside, old wool sweaters and found balls of yarn, Gu explores the idea of old and new.

Chinese-American fashion designer Jan Zhou combines traditional Chinese embroidery with a gothic touch to create a 3D-effect textile piece depicting a peony, a Chinese symbol for luck and fortune.

Andrea Minini
Andrea Minini
Milan-based designer Andrea Minini is known for his animal illustrations that feature textured moiré patterns, creating an unusual intersection between natural forms and mathematics. The patterns give each illustration a great sense of motion, curving naturally with the shape of each animal. For the Lunar New Year, Minini has collaborated with Lane Crawford to design a gold monkey graphic that is featured on our exclusive red packets.
