A BREATH OF FRESH AIR

Officially the Western District Public Cargo Working Area, this spot has been lovingly renamed by those who flock to it for its obvious Insta credentials. Overlooking the expansive harbourfront, it’s one of the island’s best vantage points to take in water views, and sits adjacent to Waterfront Promenade if you want to get your body moving.

With not one but three waterfalls, a deep plunge pool and a high cliff for cannonballing, it’s worth the trek to this secluded stream. Once you’ve finished splashing about, sit on the rocks and soak up the sun, or make your way by foot to Sai Kung’s quiet Sai Wan Beach a short journey away. To reach the stream, start from Sai Wan Pavilion (it’s clearly signposted) or take a public or private boat from Sai Kung.

Known for its rugged granite that resembles the side profile of a resting lion, Lion Rock is arguably the best spot in Hong Kong for city views. It’s a pretty decent workout; starting from Wong Tai Sin, it’ll take you between two to five hours to complete the loop (depending on your fitness ability). Looking out past Kowloon and all the way to Central, it’s hugely rewarding – go at sunset and stay to watch the cityscape light up at night.
