7 ON-SCREEN DADS WITH STYLE

Drumroll, please

Words by Bridget Barnett

With Father’s Day just around the corner, we round up seven dads whose style is deserving of an extra moment in the spotlight.

1. HUANG LEI, WHERE ARE WE GOING, DAD?

Actor Huang Lei with his daughter, filming Dad! Where Are We Going

This reality TV hit chronicles fathers and their children travelling together to rural places, and standout style can clearly be attributed to season two’s Huang Lei. Aside from being a loveable figure, the actor, director, singer, model and screenwriter gets fashion snaps for his strong loungewear game.

2. DON DRAPER, MAD MEN

John Hamm as Don Draper in Mad Men

Not exactly underrated, but Don Draper, played by John Hamm, is worthy of his sartorial praise. In particular, Ham’s character has a serious knack for nailing suiting— think form-fitting silhouettes, narrow lapels, skinny ties, crisp white shirts and short-brimmed hats.

3. LUKE GLANTON, THE PLACE BEYOND THE PINES

Ryan Gosling as tattooed Luke Glanton in The Place Beyond The Pines

A motorcycle stunt rider turns to robbing banks as a way to provide for his lover and their newborn child, but his commitment to a look proves equally unwavering. It’s all about the muscle tees, peroxide hair, paint-splattered trousers and body ink all over.

4. LEE IK-JOON, HOSPITAL PLAYLIST

Jo Jung-suk as Lee Ik-joon in Hospital Playlist

Fans of trending Korean drama Hospital Playlist have found themselves a heartthrob father in Lee Ik-joon (played by Jo Jung-suk). Playing the role of an assistant professor of general surgery, his outfits are mostly limited to hospital scrubs — but he still deserves a mention for scrubbing up so well.

5. DON VITO CORLEONE, THE GODFATHER

Marlon Brando as Vito Corleone in The Godfather

Portrayed by Marlon Brando, Don Vito Corleone is arguably the godfather of good dad style on film, too. Whether it be in full formalwear complete with bow tie, or kicking back in an open-necked shirt and braces, he definitely had it going on.

6. PARK DONG-IK, PARASITE

The cast of Parasite

Lee Sun-kyun’s character Park Dong-Ik gets props for his role this landmark four-time-Oscar-winning film, for his polished and pristine wardrobe of suits and smart casual looks, including chinos, chequered shirts and classic two-pieces.

7. UNCLE JESSE, FULL HOUSE

John Stamos as Uncle Jesse in Full House

John Stamos, who played Jesse Katsopolis in the beloved 80s show, couldn’t be left off this list. Obsessed with his hair and Elvis Presley, the dad of twins also made a name for himself with leather jackets and loose unbuttoned shirts.
