When visiting a spa, it’s not just the treatments that create a calm feeling, the ambience is just as important too. According to Chan there are three elements for creating the right environment. Firstly, aromatherapy candles, “Candlelight brings a natural glow and intimacy to a space,” she says. “In terms of scent, I’ll use something with floral notes for a quiet, calming effect or fruitier notes to promote happiness and de-stress”. She also reveals that, “Flowers add a dash of colour to liven up a room, bringing a powerful energy to stimulate the mind and spirit”. Her last insider tip is soothing sounds, “Music for me nourishes the soul and will help to create the right ambience, subtle sounds that mimic water or the waves will encourage you to ease into meditation and a state of relaxation”.
“I love having fresh flowers at home, it helps to lift the mood of a room and adds a dash of colour. I’m a massive fan of scented candles and always have them burning in the evening. For the music, I prefer something jazzier.”
“Well, the music choice isn’t my usual scene. But, along with the candlelight, it does transform our living room into a much more chilled place and I’m already feeling Zen”.
