Many X+Q Art figurines are inspired by the sculptors’ original artworks, some of which can command top amounts at auction. Qu’s work reflects his post- political expression with humour and a slight irony while Xiang’s works are more focused on femininity and happiness. Each piece has a story of modern China behind it and the pair are eager to see people share those stories through accessible pieces that can be displayed in the home.
One of the most enchanting is a voluptuous angel in a thoughtful seated pose. “The Angel is an idea that comes from Western religions. They don’t exist in any authentic Chinese religions. Qu wanted to blend East and West and create an “oriental angel”. By contrast, the Aimei ‘Midsummer’ series depicts a graceful female figure with eyes closed.
Each piece is completely handcrafted from beginning to end and are made in limited-edition quantities. But you won’t need to go to auction to bring a piece of their covetable work into your home.
