The Art of the Soak How to elevate your bath experience
No matter what coaxed you to the bath to begin with – a stressful day, chilly weather, a tickle in the throat – there is no doubt that the ritual, the hot water, and what you put in it, can help to cure just about anything that life throws at you.
Elevate the experience to a new level of restorative bliss by mastering these three stages:
1The Preparation
Start by turning the space into a spa like environment; dim the light, declutter your countertop, light candles, pour yourself your favourite drink (and make sure it’s placed within easy reach). Sound is something of personal preference, for some silence is a necessity for a truly restorative experience, while for others, a soothing playlist of mellow tunes is key to switching off.
2The Soak
Choosing the right ingredients is key to the ultimate cure-all soak. Throw in a handful of detoxifying bath salts, along with a few generous drops of essential oil. Ingredients such as chamomile, lavender, tea tree and eucalyptus will sooth emotional tension, focus the mind and help calm and restore healthy breathing. Finish by scrubbing away the stress of the day with an exfoliating body polish.
3The Finale
After stepping out in a heady daze from your indulgent soak, wrap yourself in a fluffy towel and lather your body with a thick layer of comforting body moisturiser. Rich balms can act as a trap some of the water still on your body, so utilise it for an extra dosage of hydration. Finish with a tall glass of water –with added lemon or cucumber slices - and fall into bed for a deep, long and relaxing sleep.
