Makeup artist, author and YouTube star, Lisa Eldridge, shares her tips on party looks and how to decorate the family Christmas tree with Editor-at-Large, Harriet Quick.
On Camera Ready Tips
“Use a long-lasting foundation, not the dewy type, as parties can be hot and sweaty. Apply thin, thin layers, blend well and buff, and let them sink in so they adhere and become part of the skin. Dab a good concealer under the eye, on the nose and chin and massage in highlighter on the tops of cheekbones, centre of the top of lip and bridge of the nose then add a cream blusher. Highlighters bring light and life to the skin and trick the eye.”
On her Festive Look
“For Lancôme’s new collection, I featured dusty rose pink and mink colours with a deep cyclamen lip – Christmas make up can be cool. For party dresses, I adore the new rich jewel colours and styles with high necks, mid calf lengths and long sleeves. It feels sexy to cover up and wear chic, bold makeup.”
On Party Makeup
“I like glitter when it is undone - dab it on with your fingers and use sticky tape to take off when it’s gone awry. I do like eyeliner in a wing flick, shading in the socket line and I love separate eyelashes that I buy in drugstores in Hong Kong and Japan – they are light, feathery and look fantastic. The new way to wear blush is the old fashioned ‘80s sculpted way but perfectly blended.”
On Evening Clutch Essentials
“Makeup gets tired around the most expressive areas - under the eyes and around the lips. Take 3 cotton buds dabbed in remover, a touch up concealer and loose powder. Dior does an amazing handbag friendly compact powder.”
On Christmas in the Eldridge House
“We will be in London and watching movies in our new cinema ‘room.’ Robin Derrick, my husband, loves to cook and we order an organic turkey. Last year we did it Turkish style with a recipe recommended by the photographers, Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott. It’s stuffed with herbs, spices, and vegetables and massaged with butter – mouthwatering. The ‘house’ cocktail is a French 75.”
On Dressing the Tree
“More is more. We have kept the decorations for years – glass ones from Venice, incredible ones from Hong Kong - and they all have stories. Robin likes multiple sets of coloured lights and the tree is 10 /12 foot tall. We go for it. I decorate it with big pieces of vintage jewelry, amazing ribbons and bows including one I’ve kept since a teenager.”
