Together in Craft Inspired by its founder’s lifelong love of crocheting, Ibility gives everyone the chance to craft his or her own unique Christmas gift
When Rose Lee learned how to crochet at the age of six, little did she know the handicraft would one day play such a pivotal role in her career. Fast-forward to today, and the designer is the creative spark behind Ibility, a brand focused on bringing crocheting to contemporary fashion design, and a winner of Lane Crawford’s The Next New 2016 programme.
Having opened a fashion retail store in Hung Hom in 2010, Lee took Ibility in a bold new direction three years later when her husband, Peter Lin, got involved in the brand. Driven by the notion that creativity is an essential part of life, and that clothing is something that should be cherished, the couple hit on the idea of selling DIY crocheting packs that allow anyone to learn the craft.
“I think being creative is important for everyone. Life is dull without creativity and passion, society cannot move forward without them either,” says Lee.
“We are living in a time where efficiency triumphs over everything, where emotional distance keeps people apart, and that is the reason why we hope to convey meaningful messages with our DIY packs and custom-made collection, creating gifts that speak volumes.”
By following the simple instructions included with Ibility packs, anyone can learn the traditional stitching technique while simultaneously crafting accessories and other items that make perfect gifts. “Handmade gifts represent the thought, time and effort behind them, which make the gifts all the more unique and meaningful,” says Lin. “Don’t be afraid to surprise your loved ones with a little creativity - you’ll be surprised how much it can help to refresh relationships and express deep feelings without even saying a word,” adds Lee.
Whether used to crochet a gift for a loved one, or given as a gift, Ibility packs are a rare pleasure. For Lee, however, there is one present that is even better. “Being with my family is the best gift I could ever ask for Christmas,” she says.
