Trademark designers and sisters, Pookie and Louisa Burch launched their distinctively colourful label in 2013 with major industry buzz, quickly shooting to popularity in their own rights. Fast-forward four years and Trademark has become an acclaimed brand focused on elevated, everyday accessories.

“Since the beginning of Trademark we have always had the same underlining design principle. The brand is tied to classic items that have been updated in some capacity. We like to take items or ideas that have a sense of nostalgia or familiarity and update them. Whether it is in an unexpected material or colour or adding some humour we love to twist these very classic concepts,” the duo shares exclusively with Lane Crawford.

Colour makes up a large part of the label’s unique DNA. “We love primary colours. Our grandfather was a painter and red, blue and yellow were the only three colours he used in his paintings. That was always very inspiring to us. They are such strong and pure colours, which is something Trademark as a brand aligns with.”

While classic American design is a theme that’s become a signature for the brand, this season the duo was inspired by the photo series, The Americans, by Robert Frank, and the paintings of Andrew Wyeth. “We were also particularly obsessed with incorporating the classic gingham print in new ways.” Also heavily featured in the collection? Texture. From crinkled patent leather to smooth vachetta, the collection is punctuated with plenty of dimension.

As for how shoes impact their personal style, the designers agree that, “footwear functions as a combination of purely practical living in New York - which is a huge walking city - and a way to add something special to a very simple outfit. We like to think of our collection as being a combination of both.”
