To help nail the technique - think ‘subtle glow’ rather than ‘beaming light’ - we asked makeup artist Alva Chung to share her top three highlighter tips and tricks.
Positively Glowing
“Before applying your base of foundation, illuminate the skin first with a base illuminator, which can either be used on its own or mixed with your moisturiser. After applying your foundation, go back with a highlighter stick to add a little glow to the cheeks, around the eyes and the chin. Tread lightly with the loose powder, just use it on your t-zone to finish.”
Bright Eyes
“When highlighting your eyes, it’s important to use a highlighter pencil after concealer. Put the highlighter on the shadow of your eye bags, to make the eye bags and dark circles disappear. Finish by using a highlighter pencil to define the brow shape.”
Radiant Definition
“Strobing should be always natural and subtle. Whether you are using highlighter stick, cream or pencil, the importance is putting highlighter on the right place – anywhere the light would naturally hit; nose, cheeks, chin and above your top lip. Make sure to blend!”
